ThreeSeven designed and fabricated three mobile art carts for Springboard for the Arts’ pilot program C/Art Lowertown. The program aimed to bring art onto the sidewalks of Lowertown St Paul and provide a vehicle for artists to engage with new audiences. In addition to being attractive, durable, and easy to push around, our challenge was to create a rolling base that was transformable by artists of all medium to use. The form was intended to attract attention and the materiality of rough cedar and brushed aluminum offered an unassuming base ensuring the artist using the C/Art could make it their own. While each is usable in a variety of ways, the three C/Arts include a market cart, a social practice cart, and a fold-out performance stage cart. In their first season on the sidewalks of Lowertown, the C/Arts have helped increase visibility of the Lowertown artist community and allowed artists to expand their audience.
